Dr. Jaana Suviniitty is an educational developer at Aalto University where she has taught since 2004. Her doctoral research focused on the comprehensibility of lectures in academic English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) settings, with focus on the lecturers’ interactional features as well as the pedagogical implications of academic ELF research. Her study is of high importance due to internationalization being one of the major strategic goals of most universities currently. Dr. Suviniitty’s study covers those interactional features found in recorded lectures which were also compared to each other regarding their comprehensibility. This study has provided her with tools to use in her university pedagogy courses and workshops which she develops and organizes together with courses on multicultural competence as well as on English for specific purposes. In order to grow as a lecturer and trainer, Dr. Suviniitty studies drama pedagogy which enables her to gain further tools to add in her pedagogical repertoire. Her current research interests cover on-line courses and the collaboration of university staff in an international, on-line collaboration platform as well as the recognition of prior learning (RPL). Dr. Suviniitty, throughout her teaching career, has received excellent reviews from both students and staff on her courses, which is a clear indication of her genuine interest in pedagogy, teaching, and learning.
